About Lincomycin

It is a Macrolide.

Mechanism of Action of Lincomycin

It binds to the 50S sub unit of bacterial ribosome and inhibits translocation.ie: they interfere with the transfer of the newly formed peptide chain from the A site to the P site and fails to expose the A site .So that A site is unable to bind with the next aminoacyl tRNA complex. This leads to premature termination of amino acid chain and there by inhibits protein synthesis

Absorption: It is well absorbed after oral administration. Distribution: It is very widely distributed in the body as protein bound form. Metabolism: Drug is metabolized in the liver. Excretion: The drug is excreted through urine and small amount through bile and breast milk.

Interactions for Lincomycin

Neuromuscular blocking agents: Use with caution since actions of these agents are enhanced.
Kaolin: Reduced GI absorption of lincomycin.

Typical Dosage for Lincomycin

Adult: 500 mg every 8 hours in a day
Severe infection: 500 mg every 6 hours in a day
Children: 30 mg / kg body weight/day in divided dose for 6 - 8 hour interval
Severe infection: 60 mg/ kg body weight/ day in divided dose for 6 - 8 hour interval
