Mechanism of Action of Acebutolol
Acebutolol is a cardioselective ?-adrenergic antagonist with little effect on the bronchial receptors. It exhibits some intrinsic sympathomimetic activity and membrane-stabilizing properties.It decreases oxygen consumption and cardiac work.It prevent the release of rennin.It reduces blood pressure.Acebutolol also act as antiarrythmic agent due to beta blocking action.

Interactions for Acebutolol
Clonidine: May enhance or reverse acebutolol`s antihypertensive effect; potentially life-threatening situations may occur, especially on withdrawal
NSAIDs: Some agents may impair antihypertensive effect
Prazosin: May cause increase in orthostatic hypotension
Verapamil: Effects of both drugs may be increased
Typical Dosage for Acebutolol
Hypertension:
Adult: Initially, 400 mg once daily or 200 mg bid. If necessary, may increase dose after 2 wk to 400 mg bid. Up to 1.2 g daily
Angina pectoris:
Adult: 400 mg once daily or 200 mg bid up to 300 mg tid. Up to 1.2 g daily
Cardiac arrhythmias:
Adult: Initially, 200 mg bid up to 1.2 g daily in divided doses as required
