About Chlorhexidine + Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash

Mechanism of Action of Chlorhexidine + Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash
Sodium fluoride increases osteoblast activity and increase bone volume. Adequate incorporation of fluoride into teeth hardens the outer layers of enamel and increases resistances to demineralization. (The bacteria that cause caries produce acid through the fermentation of carbohydrates, which can dissolve the carbonated hydroxyapatite mineral of teeth, a process called demineralization).
Pharmacokinets of Chlorhexidine + Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash
Absorption: Sodium fluoride is well absorbed after oral administration.
Distribution: It is widely distributed in body tissues and organs and concentrated mainly in the teeth and bone.
Excretion: It is excreted mainly in the urine. Small amount is also excreted in sweat, milk and intestinal secretions.

Chlorhexidine

About Chlorhexidine
A bisbiguanide antimicrobial agent, Anti-infective, antiseptic.
Mechanism of Action of Chlorhexidine
This drug has positive charge so it attach to the negative charge cell wall. This destabilizes and destroys the integrity and penetrates bacterial cell membranes. It results precipitation of the cytoplasm and interferes with membrane function by inhibiting oxygen utilization leading to a decrease in cellular ATP levels and cell death. In gram-negative bacteria, chlorhexidine affects the outer membrane allowing the release of periplasmic enzymes. The inner membrane of these organisms is not ruptured but the uptake of small molecules is impaired. At low concentrations chlorhexidine exhibits a bacteriostatic effect while at high concentrations it is bactericidal.
Pharmacokinets of Chlorhexidine
Absorption- Poorly from the gastrointestinal tract.
Distribution- 87% bound to the plasma proteins.
Excretion- Excreted through feces.

8. Calculus formation above the gum line
Contra-indications of Chlorhexidine
1. Hypersensitivity to the drug
Special Precautions while taking Chlorhexidine
1. Avoid eating or drinking for at least 1 hour after each dose
2. To minimize the staining apply drug with the hollow cup brush tip of the Rota-dent perio tool to only the gum tissue, especially focus on the areas with pockets depths over 4mm
3. You may also alternate drug with custom bleaching trays at home

Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash

About Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash
Topical teeth preparation, Fluorides, Prophylaxis of dental caries.
Mechanism of Action of Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash
Sodium fluoride increases osteoblast activity and increase bone volume. Adequate incorporation of fluoride into teeth hardens the outer layers of enamel and increases resistances to demineralization. (The bacteria that cause caries produce acid through the fermentation of carbohydrates, which can dissolve the carbonated hydroxyapatite mineral of teeth, a process called demineralization).
Sodium fluoride acts systemically (before tooth eruption) and topically (post eruption) by increasing tooth resistance to acid dissolution, by promoting remineralization, by inhibiting the cariogenic microbial process and by inhibiting bacterial enzymes. Incorporation of fluoride into apatite crystals reduces the dissolution of apatite during acid attacks. Fluoride interacts with hydroxyapatite to form the less acid soluble fluorhydroxyapatite. Fluorhydroxyapatite is more resistant to dissolution by the acids produced by bacteria found in plaque. Fluoride may also promote the remineralization of enamel in early caries. Finally fluoride may reduce oral concentrations of cariogenic bacteria or reduce the metabolism of bacteria in plaque.
