About Sulphacetamide SodiumSulfonamide, Anti-infective.Mechanism of Action of Sulphacetamide SodiumSulphacetamide sodium is a sterile, topical sulfonamide which exerts its bacteriostatic action by inhibiting bacterial folate synthetase enzyme and results in inhibition of bacterial folic acid synthesis. Sulfonamides are structural analogues of PABA (Para amino benzoic acid) which is an essential constituent of bacterial folic acid. It competitively inhibits the incorporation of PABA with Pteridine residue to form dihydropteroic acid which conjugates with glutamic acid and produce Dihydrofolic acid. Interactions for Sulphacetamide SodiumN/ATypical Dosage for Sulphacetamide SodiumSulphacetamide sodium eye drops 10, 20 and 30% drops are used.
Conjunctivitis, Corneal ulcers and other superficial ocular infections: Initial dose: Instill 1 or 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye every 2 - 3 hours for 7 - 10 days. Dosages may be gradually decreased depending on the condition responds.
Trachoma: Instill 2 drops into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye every 2 hours. Topical administration must be accompanied by systemic administration
