Mechanism of Action of Ormeloxifene

Ormeloxifene is selective estrogen receptor modulators which act on the estrogen receptor. It is a non-hormonal, non-steroidal oral contraceptive. Ormeloxifene selectively bind with high affinity to estrogen receptors (ER) and mimic the effect of estrogen in vagina, bone, cardiovascular system and central nervous system but act as estrogen antagonists in uterine and breast tissue. It is therefore, suitable in the treatment of heavy dysfunctional uterine bleeding (DUB).
