Mechanism of Action of Vinpocetine
Vinpocetine is a semi synthetic derivative of Vincamine. It is a phosphodiesterases inhibitor. It produces vasodilator action and improves blood flow. Vinpocetine facilitates cerebral metabolism by improving blood flow to the brain. It increases the production of ATP in the brain cell and increasing utilization of glucose and oxygen by neurons. Vinpocetine increases the production of Noradrenaline and Dopamine. It prevents strokes, senile dementia and memory disturbances. It is a cerebral metabolic activator and a neuronal protector. It produces an immediate increase in the cerebral oxygenation and results in the activation of the cerebral metabolism.
