Amide derivative, A respiratory stimulant.
Mechanism of Action of Prethcamide
Prethcamide acts by promoting excitation of central neurons. It produces respiratory stimulation by an action on peripheral carotid and aortic body chemoreceptors. As the dose is increased Prethcamide stimulates respiratory centers in the medulla and other parts of brain. The respiratory stimulant action is manifested by an increase in tidal volume with a slight increase in respiratory rate.
