Mechanism of Action of Conjugated Oestrogens (Haemostatic)
Oestrogens binds to specific nuclear oestrogen-receptors in target cells and producing effects by regulating protein synthesis. Oestrogen-receptors have been demonstrated in female sex organs, breast, CNS, pituitary, liver, heart, blood vessels, bone, and in certain hormone responsive carcinoma cells. Binding of oestrogens brings about receptor dimerisation and interaction with oestrogen response elements (specific DNA sequence) of target genes. Gene transcription is promoted through certain coactivator proteins. Conjugated estrogens help to shorten prolonged bleeding time and reduce or stop bleeding
