Beta Blocker With Intrinsic Sympathomimetic Activity , Anti hypertensive,Antiangina.
Mechanism of Action of Pindolol
Pindolol is a non selective beta receptor antagonist with partial beta agonistic action. It reduces exercise induced increase in heart rate and cardiac output & prevents negative ionotropy or Bradycardia in resting heart It decreases oxygen consumption; cardiac work and aortic pressure. It increases oxygen supply and exercise tolerance in angina patients. It has slight membrane stabilizing effect. The drug decreases peripheral resistance & BP in hypertensive individuals.

Adrenaline: Marked increase in blood pressure.
Anaesthetics: Decreased cardiac output.
Oral hypoglycaemic agents: Enhanced hypoglycaemic effect.
Verapamil: Bradycardia, hypotension and heart failure.
Typical Dosage for Pindolol
Hypertension: Starts with 5mg 12th hourly gradually increases by 10mg/day at monthly intervals up to 60mg/day based on patient`s response in 2 - 3 divided doses..
Normal dose range: 10 to 30mg/day
Angina: 5mg to 10mg three to four times daily

Effects of Missed Dosage of Pindolol
Take the missed dose as soon as noticed and if it is the time for next dose then skip the missed dose. Continue the regular schedule. Do not double the dose.
Effects of Overdose of Pindolol
Treatment is supportive and symptomatic. After ingestion empty the stomach by induced emesis or gastric lavage. Administer activated charcoal to reduce absorption.
