Mechanism of Action of Thalidomide
Thalidomide has immunomodulatory and antiinflammatory properties. Thalidomide decreases circulating levels of TNF-alpha in patients with erythema nodosum leprosum and also increases plasma TNF-alpha levels in HIV-seropositive patients.It produces an increase in the number of circulating natural killer cells, and an increase in plasma levels of interleukin-2 and interferon-gamma.So it is used in the treatment of multiple myeloma
