Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash

About Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash
Topical teeth preparation, Fluorides, Prophylaxis of dental caries.
Mechanism of Action of Sodium fluoride Mouth Wash
Sodium fluoride increases osteoblast activity and increase bone volume. Adequate incorporation of fluoride into teeth hardens the outer layers of enamel and increases resistances to demineralization. (The bacteria that cause caries produce acid through the fermentation of carbohydrates, which can dissolve the carbonated hydroxyapatite mineral of teeth, a process called demineralization).
Sodium fluoride acts systemically (before tooth eruption) and topically (post eruption) by increasing tooth resistance to acid dissolution, by promoting remineralization, by inhibiting the cariogenic microbial process and by inhibiting bacterial enzymes. Incorporation of fluoride into apatite crystals reduces the dissolution of apatite during acid attacks. Fluoride interacts with hydroxyapatite to form the less acid soluble fluorhydroxyapatite. Fluorhydroxyapatite is more resistant to dissolution by the acids produced by bacteria found in plaque. Fluoride may also promote the remineralization of enamel in early caries. Finally fluoride may reduce oral concentrations of cariogenic bacteria or reduce the metabolism of bacteria in plaque.
