Mechanism of Action of Ciclopiroxolamine
Ciclopiroxolamine is a chelating agent. It forms complexes with polyvalent metal cations eg.Fe3+, Al 3+. These metal cations are essential for enzymes for exerting their cellular activities including mitochondrial electron transport and energy production. Ciclopirox alters plasma membrane of fungi and changes the internal structure of fungus. It also possesses anti-inflammatory action by inhibiting lipoxygenase and cyclo-oxygenase enzymes.
