Mechanism of Action of Gonadotrophin F.S.H
It is an anterior pituitary hormone acts through cell membrane receptors and causing alteration of intracellular cyclic AMP concentration and alters protein kinase-A and thus regulates cell function. FSH promotes gametogenesis and secretion of gonadal hormones. In female it induces follicular growth, development of ovum and secretion of hormone estrogen. In male it supports spermatogenesis and also has a trophic influence on seminiferous tubules.
